B-Schools, Baba Sehgal aur Bank Chor

B-School entrance exams are usually high pressure multiple choice time bound papers where every second counts. The craziest thing happened when I was taking mine. This is sometime in 1992 or so if I remember. A mental song got stuck in my head and I just couldn't get it out. So I did the only thing I could or had to.

I put my HB13 pencil aside and belted out the song. Loud. With the antara, mukhda, chorus, rap, beats, beatboxing, the works. It was Dil Dhadke by the one & only Baba Sehgal. India's 1st rapper. Of Thanda Thanda Paani, Manjula and more fame.

People in the class and the supervisor looked at me like I'd lost the plot due to the pressure but I've never cared much for that anyway. I got sorted and then promptly continued to max out the test. But I landed up screwing over the 16 others in the class who then got the song stuck in their heads. So if they lost any marks - it's Baba's fault.

Today a dream of mine came true. A chance to work with Baba Sehgal. Not too many people know he's also the original singer of Rukmani Rukmani from Roja by Mani Rathnam/ AR Rahman. And he has a cameo in our forthcoming film, 'BankChor'. He's written, composed, sung and featured in a batshit crazy video for the film as well called Bae, Baba aur BankChor. It's the maddest song in the album.

Check it out and if it does get stuck in your head, you know who to blame!
